Milan isn’t just about high fashion, it is a city of art, architecture and rich Milanese cuisine. We asked our colleague Barbara, who has lived in Milan for 20 years, to share her favorite local foodspots.

Pasticceria Sissi – The Perfect Breakfast

Tucked near Porta Venezia, Pasticceria Sissi is a favorite spot for locals who start their day with one of the best cornetti (Italian croissants) in town. Flaky, buttery, and filled with everything from pistachio cream to apricot jam.
Chiosco Al Politico – A Sandwich with Personality
Photo from Chiosco Al Politico
Just across Castello Sforzesco sits a humble food truck with a cult following. Chiosco Al Politico serves only sandwiches and cold drinks, but with a twist. Each sandwich is named after a famous Italian politician, with fillings that change depending on the current political scene. It’s funny, and surprisingly delicious.
Trattoria Masuelli San Marco – Classic Done Right

Since 1921, this restaurant is a favorite among locals who want tradition on a plate. The Cotoletta alla (Veal cutlet) Milanese is cooked on the bone and fried in butter, crispy and golden. Pair it with their creamy risotto alla Milanese and you’ve got the perfect classic meal.
Piz – Pizza Near the Duomo

Just a short walk from the Duomo, this bright, cheerful spot serves authentic Neapolitan pizzas made with top-tier ingredients. Expect light, airy dough and fresh tomato sauce, quite possibly the best pizza you could ever have in Milan. Beyond the food, the ambience is welcoming and full of character, making it a great spot for special occasions.
